Manuel Choqque Tuber Conservation + Visit to Maras salt Flats

We’ll learn from Manuel about his tuber conservation and we’ll feast on his delicious bounty, with a home-cooked, 4 course meal.
Later, we visit the captivating Maras Salt Flats. Over 3000 salt pools dating back to pre-columbian times are still harvested using traditional techniques at Salinas de Mares. Water, naturally salt-infused, flows down from the mountains and settles in the pans. As the water evaporates, salt remains, to be extracted with simple tools. The salt gathered here is considered some of the best in the world.
We’ll end our day in Ollantaytambo where we’ll settle in and dine together at the hotel.

Guided Visit to Machu Picchu
Early wake up today as we board the train to Aguas Calientes with our guide who will take us on a walking tour of the historic sanctuary known as Machu Picchu.
Listed as one of the 7 New Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu stands 2,430 m above sea-level, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, in an extraordinarily beautiful setting. It was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height; its giant walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments. The natural setting, on the eastern slopes of the Andes, encompasses the upper Amazon basin with its rich diversity of flora and fauna.
We’ll share lunch together in Aguas Calientes and take the return train back to our hotel for dinner on your own in Ollantaytambo

You will take home your own herbal macerado with spices and herbs harvested from the farm. We finish with a cocktail tasting and family-style tasting lunch.
