ALISON BELL - is a chef, food educator and culinary scholar who holds a Master's in Gastronomy. Alison's career has spanned the globe, taking her from working with some of Canada’s most talented chefs to cooking for America’s Cup yachting teams, running her own cafe and catering business and sharing her passion for food as a food educator for over twenty years. Alison is thrilled to share her culinary knowledge and healthful, innovative cuisine with Ace Camp Culinary.

WHERE WE'RE STAYING:
The London Town House is situated on the famous Heaver Estate Balham, built by Lord Alfred Heaver at the end of the last century. Balham is well positioned for easy access into cental London ten minutes to Victoria Station by train (Buckingham Palace). The House overlooks Tooting Common which has a Cafe and tennis courts. The Tooting Bec Lido which is close, one of the largest outdoor pools in Europe, has an open 50 metre swimming pool.
Overlooking the Common this double-fronted Victorian Townhouse is ideally located for easy reach of London's West End as well as southeast England. The house has been featured in many interior design magazines. With herringbone parquet flooring in the ground floor reception rooms, the huge contemporary kitchen features neutral limestone tiles with an outdoor terrace ~ should the weather permit we will dine outdoors. With its five metre kitchen island unit, the house has played host to a number of celebrity chefs and cook's including Jamie Oliver, Antonio Carluccio, Mary Berry and Ken Hom.
Fergus Henderson's - St. John Restaurant is known around the world as the restaurant that brought real British food to the fore. A visit to St John is a must. Henderson’s hallmark “nose to tail cooking”, a culinary description he coined, is praised by chef Anthony Bourdain and British writer and ,famously unforgiving, food critic A. A. Gill. Featured dishes include Roast Marrow Bone and Parsley Salad, Potted Shrimp, Roast Lamb, Grilled Kidneys, simple, seasonal vegetables and a selection of traditional British sweets. In consultation with St. John, ACE Camp Cooks will choose a selection of dishes for the group.

London is lovely in spring, but the weather can sometimes be a bit unpredictable. One minute it might be fairly warm and sunny and the next minute cool, breezy and rainy. High temperature averages are 17C / 63F and low temperature averages are 10C / 50F. It’s best to pack a variety of clothing and dress in layers. Light sweaters, scarves and jackets are best, and an umbrella is a must no matter what the weather report says. You never know when a light shower will pop up.

You won't be able to do it all, unfortunately, as London has so many incredible sites but here are a few ideas to plan for: Victoria and Albert Museum, Lamb’s Conduit Street Shops, Bea’s Of Bloomsbury (tea/cupcakes), British Museum, James Smith and Son’s Umbrellas, Westminster Abbey,
Houses of Parliament, Big Ben,

Harrod’s, Liberty, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols

7:00 Welcome dinner with wine and introductions.
Alison will go over the itinerary and the plans for the week.
9:00 Depart for London Central
10:00 A food tour of Soho with JENNY LINFORD. Join one of London’s most renowned foodies as we savour some of the finest foods Soho has to offer from around the world.
1:00 Visit Shoreditch ( Labour and Wait and other shops) and have tea at Lyle's or St. John Bread and Wine
Return to Elmbourne Road for Dinner.
9:30 Depart for tour of Borough Market. Late morning snack at Borough Market
1:00 Visit the British Museum of Food
2:30 Lunch ~ YOTAM OTTOLENGHI'S restaurant, NOPI. This trademark Ottolenghi restaurant in Soho offers a wide selection of outstanding, seasonal food. While much of Isreali-born Ottolenghi’s food exemplifies the tastes of the Middle East, he is known for marrying the flavours of the Mediterranean and Asia, as well. A simple, family-style selection of dishes such as courgette and manouril fritters, coriander seed-crusted burrata with blood orange and chicken with lemon myrtle salt.
7:30 Light dinner at home with British beer or special cocktail. Wine is served with dinner.
8:00 Breakfast “The Full English” an institution! Eggs, sausage, bacon, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes - the Full Monty.
Morning - Explore the neighbour or head out to adventure.
2:30 Cooking Class with Spice Monkey. Spice Monkey is an Indian cookery school based in North London. Headed up by Nikita Gulhane, a course at the house will give you the tools and confidence to create your own great tasting dishes time after time. This lesson will include dinner.
Tour of Maltby St and Ropewalk ~
Running between Maltby Street and Millstream Road, the newest addition to the area is the Ropewalk – a lively street market with a combination of stalls, under-arch shops, pop-up bars and eateries.
No market would be complete without a coffee stall, and the Ropeway’s coffee cart is Coffee, Mate?, who brew with Has Bean coffees. Also on offer in the beverage department are wines by the glass from Life’s a Bottle and gin cocktails at the pop-up Sparrow Bar put on by small-batch London gin distillers Little Bird Gin.
1:00 Head to Marylebone Village and visit La Fromagerie and Daunt Books.
5:00 Cheese and Wine Tasting at Paxton and Whitfield. Which cheese goes with which wine? There are so many cheeses to choose, and so many wines, that you don’t need to feel restricted. If you find a wine you love, there will be a selection of cheeses to suit. If you find a cheese you love, there will be a selection of wines to try. You will learn the insider secrets to pairing wine + cheese.
